About Strategic Fuels

Strategic Fuel Corporation Limited was formed in response to current concerns over global warming and the dwindling availability of fossil fuels. This has created an urgent need for alternative sources of energy.

Biofuels are seen as the major area to positively impact both of these issues and the imposition of targets on road transport for their use will lead to a rapidly growing demand for the feedstock which refiners require as raw material.

Strategic Fuels is focused on the farming and processing of crops suitable for the manufacture of biodiesel on an industrial scale. It has selected Jatropha Curcas as the most suitable plant for the sustainable development of a profitable biofuels feedstock business and has established plantations in developing countries supported by significant and market leading agronomical research to ensure increasing crop yields and sustainable agricultural practices.

Strategic Fuels has developed a strategy to produce jatropha feedstock, which can then be sold to refineries for the production of biodiesel. There are three main elements to the strategy:

• A global organisation exchanging knowledge between countries
   
• Relationships with local organisations that have expertise acquired over several years
   
• Careful selection of regions determined by climatic, political and economic considerations

Strategic Fuels is initially concentrating on jatropha plantations in Central America and is is structuring a major joint venture in India to roll out jatropha cultivation across an already successful contract farming network.
